But what exactly is this 'magic' ingredient? It’s 1,000 year old black Nordic silt from a remote Finnish lake. Let us give you an exclusive look at our precious ingredient and tell you why it makes for such a unique mask.
First, you must be wondering, what is the difference between clay and silt? Mainly, the grain (particle) size distribution determines a soil’s classification. The main soil types are boulders, gravel, sand, silt, and clay. Don't get scared by our technical language, we'll break it down for you.
WHAT'S A PROCESSED CLAY MASK?
Most other masks on the market use clay. Clays are categorized into six groups: kaolin, ball clay, fire clay, bentonite, fuller’s earth, and common clay and shale. For cosmetic use, these clays need to be heavily processed by lengthy and complicated mechanical methods: such as crushing, heating, grinding, and screening that reduces the clay into a powder. Unlike us, they're not using the natural form and as you can see, it's extremely dry.
HOW IS VOLITION'S MASK DIFFERENT?
Unlike processed clay masks, Volition’s Detoxifying Silt Gelee uses our unique and precious Black Nordic Silt that is packed with bioactives, minerals and nutrients that have biodegraded over thousands of years. Because it settled at a time in a remote, pristine place untouched by modern-day pollution, it is incredibly pure.
Our Silt is completely unlike the dry clay that EVERYONE else uses.
It is incorporated into our Gelee in its most natural, unprocessed form. To incorporate this wet, rich Silt into a mask, Volition’s innovator – Takako – a brilliant cosmetic chemist – had to create a unique gel suspension technology. She used vegetable-based oils like jojoba and avocado to coat the insoluble, precious silt and suspend it into a water-based gel. That is why this Gelee has such a wet, buoyant texture that does not dry, cake or strip the skin like other masks.
DO I NEED THE DETOXIFYING SILT GELEE MASK?
Yes you do! Long story short, Byrdie said "nothing would clear my blackheads until this" and even called it "the holy grail blackhead-eraser." Glamour, 7x7 and WWD have also chimed in on this 'magic' mask!
It's an absolute must-have that you can use all year round.
